Real Madrid star Caroline Weir to open 2024 SHEIN Women’s Football Awards

Real Madrid forward and Scotland international Caroline Weir will officially open the 2024 Women’s Football Awards, sponsored by SHEIN, taking place in London this month. 

The women’s football ace, who plays for the Liga F giants, will welcome guests to the high profile awards event with a keynote speech highlighting the exciting growth of the sport. 

Weir, who also won two FA Cups and two League Cups with Manchester City, and has received 102 caps for Scotland, is one of the biggest names in world football. 

The soccer superstar, who will join hosts Eni Aluko and Jamie Carragher at the star-studded ceremony on 30 May, said: 

“I am very excited to be opening the 2024 SHEIN Women’s Football Awards.

“Having been on the judging panel last year, I was delighted to be asked to be part of this event which celebrates the successes of some of the best women’s football players in the world, as well as the people and organisations working hard to grow the game.

“It’s been another incredible year for the women’s game, with plenty of progress made on and off the pitch. However, it’s important that we continue to shine a spotlight on areas of improvement and advocate for equal access to opportunities and resources for women and girls globally.

“This year’s Women’s Football Awards is set to be bigger than ever. I am looking forward to joining the brilliant Eni and Jamie and the rest of the team on 30 May and celebrating with all of the winners.”

Former Lioness Eni Aluko, who is hosting the 2024 Women’s Football Awards, added:

“You don’t get much more of a bigger name in world women’s football than Caroline Weir and it is fantastic to have her joining us as part of the line-up for the 2024 awards. 

“We’ve got some really exciting plans and big surprises taking place on the night. This year’s SHEIN Women’s Football Awards is going to be the best yet.” 

Sky Sports presenter Jamie Carragher, said: 

“It is fantastic to be part of the SHEIN Women’s Football Awards again and help shine a light on success in the game. I’m proud to lend my support and give women’s football the prominence it deserves.”

The Women’s Football Awards is the biggest event celebrating achievements in women’s football in Europe. Previous award winners include Arsenal and England forward Alessia Russo, Barcelona ace Kiera Walsh and England captain Harry Kane who was recognised for promoting investment in the women’s game. 

Pixie Lott will be performing at this year’s ceremony which sees major nominations for Manchester United’s Mary Earps and Maya Le Tissier Manchester City’s Bunny Shaw and Chelsea’s Fran Kirby.
